Install Solar Window Film to improve your comfort, guided by Avery Dennison

The new reality which we are all living in, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, limits us to the boundaries of our homes, but also provides us with great opportunities to upgrade the comfort of the spaces which we live and now work in.

Avery Dennison has launched a Window Film installation training for graphic customers who have no prior window film installation training experience. The webinar training is a practical guide outlining the basic steps for the successful installation of Avery Dennison Solar window films. The objective is to show how easy it is to apply Avery Dennison window films with the right steps, tools and technique.

Our senior technical specialist, Theo Kostarakis, set up his training classroom in his own home, and demonstrated the installation techniques on his window via Zoom.

1. How important is knowing the window glass we are applying Avery Dennison solar window films to?

To start, it is very important to know the type of window glass before deciding what Avery Dennison solar window films to apply.  This is to ensure compatibility of film to glass to avoid thermal stress and glass defect, which poses safety risks if there is a glass breakage or seal failure.
Please refer to the Avery Dennison Film to Glass Application Chart as a guide before making your film selection.

2. What product was selected to be used for your home, and why?

I chose DR OptiTune 20i because it is an internal glass application. This is popular with domestic installations as it has a neutral grey finish, and not too dark.

3. Do I push or pull the blue max block squeegee during installation?

When installing Avery Dennison solar window films it is important to push the blue max block squeegee to apply the maximum force needed to remove as much of the application solution as possible, and to easily push to the edge of the frame. Pulling back creates less force, running the risk of application solution remaining trapped under the film that can cause pooling and bubbling issues. Pulling the squeegee is also not practical as you will be unable to push to the edge of the window frame.
