Avery Dennison works with Final Year Architecture students from Singapore Polytechnic

Avery Dennison has a strong corporate social responsibility (CSR) ethos that is demonstrated through employee volunteerism, including in ASEAN. We advance the causes of education, sustainability, and women’s empowerment in communities where Avery Dennison employees live and work, and focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) or graphic and visual arts educational efforts. 

As such, Avery Dennison Graphics was very honored to collaborate with Singapore Polytechnic Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE) School - Diploma of Interior Design to work on a final year project, titled “Designing Avery Dennison Automotive Customer Experience Centre”.

“The school course chair shared that while the architectural students learn about different materials, they are not exposed to advanced materials like pressure-sensitive materials that could be used in architectural applications. Therefore we saw this collaboration as a great fit to share our material-science and technical know-how to the students, and advance the education in graphics and visual arts in Singapore.” Regional marketing manager, Elle Cheng explained. 

This is a project that ran for 6 months, with the final year presentations in April 2020. Avery Dennison worked closely with the students for their final year project which included curriculum of car owner research, site analysis, a wrap shop visit, installer interview, and product technical training.

Specifically, Avery Dennison representatives such as Arbind Singh (South APAC Automotive segment manager), Chan Tuck Meng (ASEAN technical marketing manager), our distributor Boxfresh and installer partner The Vinyl Clinic, alongside with Singapore Polytechnic teachers, shared about industry insights and provided insightful feedback towards how the students’ ideas for their Final Year project could translate to real-world scenarios.

Based on the positive responses, we see this as having the potential to roll out similar collaborations in other Architectural schools around South Asia Pacific. We hope, in the future, to be able to use this collaboration model to benefit more schools and students.
