Dutch “Wrap star” prepares three Gumball 3000 cars for London-Tokyo race

As the Gumball 3000 race heads for Japan following its London to Italy phases, one winner is already clear: Joffrey van der Jagt, who, with a team of European “wrap stars,” has wrapped three of the 130 entries.

“It was hard to get the opportunity to wrap for ‘Gumball’, for drivers to find and trust us,” Joffrey, who wrapped his first Gumball car in 2015 says. “It’s also a crazy thing in many ways. Drivers tend to come to us two weeks before the race with high expectations, and I brought in some ace professionals from Norway, Germany and the UK to make sure we got it right.”

The cars, a BMW M5, a Porsche Turbo S, and a rare Lamborghini Aventador S, belong to an Amsterdam-based owner. They were wrapped in Avery Dennison MPI 1105 Wrapping Film. “We use the best vinyl even when customers want cheaper vinyl, because it’s so much easier and faster for us to work with, and produces a great result.”

The race covers 3000 miles (4828 kilometers) of actual driving, this year with an airlift of cars and contestants between Bologna, Italy and Osaka, Japan.The airlift breaks up the rhythm of driving, collecting speeding tickets, and raucous partying which are the race’s most famous features.

Joffrey has no intention of racing himself at this point. But he has given thought to how he’d compete if he decided to take the plunge. “I’d drive something fast and comfortable, like a Mercedes GTR. And I would wrap it in a multilayer design with an Avery Dennison Conform Chrome base for a unique effect.”

Joffrey opened his own shop, ProWrap, in the Dutch city of Eindhoven back in 2013. He frequently uses Avery Dennison materials and performs wrapping demonstrations for Avery Dennison at major industry events.. “Avery Dennison’s materials are easy to use, great quality, and Avery Dennison has a great team to work with.”
